Reasonable Intro to the more dense official User Manual

I bought this book when I bought Ableon Live 8 Suite, and I had never used the software before. I read a lot of technical texts -- mostly software / computer texts, and I am just now getting into DAW stuff for fun. The book is more like a slimmed down version of the very large official Ableton User Manual PDF. It is more readable, and more narrative than the PDF, but not really by all that much.

It follows a particular style for technical texts that I don't care for much, which is to have chapters that just describe each function/feature of the software in a linear fashion. It doesn't promote learning all that well, b/c you tend to get bored just reading about feature after feature without being more interactive. It has available some live sets that you can download and there are a few areas in the book where it prompts you to try things, but not many.

By comparison, I also have the book Reason 4 Ignite by Matt Piper (also Cengage Learning), and it takes a completely different approach. Each chapter in that book has you start with blank instrument and work through a short lesson. This style I found much more engaging, and I learn the software so much faster.

With the Ableton Power book, I feel like I've learned enough about the software now by playing with it, that the book doesn't really provide much of a reference for me anymore, as I'll probably just go straight to the PDF User Manual. Your mileage may vary.

you are better off taking online courses this book is very confusing if you have never used ableton live seek professional guidance before cracking this book open otherwise you will end up way in over your head! this is a good reference book for technicalities, other than that not much helpful

Ableton Live Power from My Perspective

The book tends to go feature by feature with a lot of "yea for Ableton" filler in-between. For me it would be less of a grind if there were a narrative that introduced the features as part of typical task done in a recording session. I give it 3 stars relative to the piles of other tech books that I've read. Also, the book is very geared to Ableton as a music performance tool rather than an environment in which to record. This I guess is fair but not what I want out of it.

Hard to a specific word when needed, but OK for browsing-type self study

This is truly more of a vocabulary list by subject, rather than a dictionary. The translated equivalences seem Ok as far as it goes, but because of the thematic structure you really can't use this as a reference dictionary when you happen upon an unfamiliar word. For example, if you wanted to know the Danish word "rabbit", you can't just go to the "R" section alphabetically. Instead you have to think about what category the publish might have plopped the word into. If you thought the "animal" section you'd be wrong. The publisher actually places rabbit under the "food" section with its Danish equivalent "kanin" listed there. Not that its a problem listed as food, but a cross reference would be nice. As it is the category isn't always intuitive. The truly frustrating part is the themed sections aren't in a readily apparent order either. At best this is like a bunch of thematically sorted flash cards in book form. Confused? Yes so was I.

Great vocabulary book for quick reference. I really appreciate that the words are grouped in categories like life events, arts, travel. Plus the most common verbs are listed, along with adjectives, numbers and even a pronunciation guide.

Even a simple word like "goddag" is wrongly transcribed

Use it for the vocabulary only. The pronunciation/transcription is inaccurate. As a matter of fact, the reviewer who reviewed the Swedish book of the same kind complained about the same thing. This book is no different. There are mistakes. I haven't checked the whole book, but the little I saw is discouraging. Even a simple word like "goddag" is wrongly transcribed. The right pronunciation is
[gudej] not [godæ:] As I said, for the vocabulary is OK

About the Author
Cynthia Heald was born in Houston, Texas, and received Christ as her personal Savior when she was twelve years old. They are the parents of four (two daughters and two sons) and grandparents of nine. filling in the gaps from a disfunctional family life

If you came from a family where your parents were constantly disrespectful and hateful to one another or even ambivalent, there is a fear and insecurity that you bring to marriage. Will I be like my Mom or Dad? This study was extremely helpful to me in searching out the hope that Jesus offers to those who seek His guidance in the bible. God's principles, when followed can redeem generations of families caught in the cycle of marital dis-function. This was an excellent start in the process. Of further help is the book, Love and Respect.

A decent Bible study for couples

We have this book along with its companion, "Loving Your Wife." They are decent Bible study guides to help you in your marriage. If you've already been having daily Bible study together, though, you may not find these books particularly useful. They would be especially helpful, however, if you're new to Bible study or if Biblical principles are lacking in either of your lives.
Personally, my husband and I benefitted much more from Stormie O'Martian's books, "The Power of a Praying Wife" and "The Power of a Praying Husband." O'Martian lays out how to turn your spouse over to the Lord, pray effectively for him/her, with lots of scriptural references.
I recommend that you start with O'Martian's books, and purchase these to use as a guide to get you started in daily Bible study as a couple.
