There is a difference, for me, between 'Good Ideas' and 'Actionable Ideas'

It is my experience that there are many great books, with very good ideas in them. What sets Mr. Weber's book apart from the 'Good Ideas' category is that most of the ideas he presents are not only developed and tested in the trenches where he works, but they are also actionable by most people, in any level of an organization, who want to contribute the kind of leadership that really matters.

Excellent book - it DOES matter how you deliver the message!

Craig Weber lays out a succinct and practical model for thinking about the way we communicate, why we often miss the mark, and how to get better. Not a quick fix, but rather a set of principles and tools for making sure that we make truly informed decisions, based around conversations that engage our audience, and ensure that we both understand and are understood. Craig Weber has a whimsical style of writing, using examples we can all relate to. If you are a leader, or aspire to be one, this is a must read!

An indispensable Read for Anyone Wanting To Engage In Real Leadership

I have read many leadership and management books. Conversational Capacity is by far the most USEABLE business/leadership book I have ever read. The hard part is realizing that the book is encouraging you to have the types of conversations you know need to be had but might be hesitant or fearful of having. Perhaps you have a colleague who is also a close family friend who isn't performing at the level needed; or a boss excited about a new initiative that you are certain will not succeed as planned. Far too often such conversations never take place. The genius of Conversational Capacity is it lays out the principles and skills needed to help you navigate difficult conversations that focus on the REAL issues that are hindering performance and do so in a way that increases the accountability of all involved (including yourself). After using this book as a guide, I have had several long-needed conversations that have been highly beneficial both at work and home. I have also realized my own conversation ineffectiveness and developed the habit of testing my own assumptions that could be contributing to the problem. I also appreciated that this book was actually interesting, filled with stories and anecdotes that demonstrate and flesh out the principles under discussions. For anyone serious about building trust, increasing accountability and having powerful conversations, I highly recommend this book.

About the Author
Dr. Willis C. Newman received his B.A. in Psychology and M.Ed. in counseling from the University of Portland. He earned the M.Div. from Western Conservative Baptist Seminary (pastoral studies), the Ph.D. in church administration from California Graduate School of Theology, and the D.Min. in cross cultural studies from Faith Evangelical Seminary (Tacoma). He served eight years as pastor, and seven years as a missionary to the Kingdom of Tonga, and has been teaching at the college or graduate school level for over 20 years.

About the Author

Andrew Bennett is Professor of English at the University of Bristol. He publishes on Romantic and twentieth-century literature and on literary theory. His books include This Thing Called Literature (2015, coauthored with Nicholas Royle), William Wordsworth in Context (2015), Ignorance: Literature and Agnoiology (2009) and The Author (2005).

Nicholas Royle is Professor of English at the University of Sussex. He publishes on literary theory, modern literature and Shakespeare. His books include Veering: A Theory of Literature (2011), How to Read Shakespeare (2005) and Jacques Derrida (2003), as well as the novel Quilt (2010).

About the Author

Ronald T. Kellogg is Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology at Saint Louis University. His education includes degrees from the University of Iowa (BS, psychology) and the University of Colorado (MA and PhD, experimental psychology) and postdoctoral study at Stanford University. His past research has examined attention, long-term memory, concept learning, and cognitive processes in writing. His current work focuses on working memory in written composition and hemispheric differences in the semantic processing of language production. He has authored numerous technical journal articles and book chapters plus several books, including The Psychology of Writing (1994), Cognitive Psychology, 2nd Ed. (2003), and The Making of the Mind: The Neuroscience of Human Nature (2013).

I've used the New Oxford Picture Dictionary for years. It's now old (first published in the '80's) and out of print. The teacher's guide is a good addition to this dictionary. I'm an ESL teacher, and I still find the books relevant and useful.
