Wow! Must Read!

First, I must say that Blue Saffire has become one of my favorite authors. I laughed, cried and rejoined while reading this book. Wyatt Black is the man. He is so comical at times, and I love his inner thoughts. His love for his family ran deep, but his love for Nellie was unconditional! Love the way he loved her and brought her out of her cocoon and made her the vixion that she was. Boy, was the sex hot, hot, hot, loved it. It broke my heart to see her mother having to suffer and succumb to the fight against cancer, it touched my heart because it hit him to me personally. I was glad to see that Nathan Briggs and the gang was brought into the story. I like how all of her novels are inter gained. I must say I will continue to read any and everything from Blue Saffire in the future.

such proper speaking characters

I just struggled though this book...when I'm reading , the characters have to sound as real as can be, but the way they talk just gets tedious. It's ok to use contractions , especially when the leading male is as alpha as described. Him saying things like, "I am " instead of good 'ol "I'm" or "if she is " as opposed to "if she's" just slows down the reading for me. It throws me off and I can't "hear" the character "speak". Maybe it's just brain processing the first person narration.

What A Story!!

This was such a good read! I can't wait until the next installment of this series comes out! I was hooked from the very first page of this story to the very end. I loved Wyatt and Nellie their chemistry together was Hot from the very beginning. I loved his family, I loved Nellie's mom and step dad. I laughed at the funny moments was on the edge of my seat during the drama filled moments and lastly had tears in my eyes at the sad and happy moments. This was my first time reading this author's work and I must say I can't wait to read more of it. A definite must read!

Imaginative ghost story

While discovering a new story about werewolves or vampires always makes me a happy reader, finding an innovative paranormal story featuring a ghost is equally gratifying. The most recent Nocturne story by the gifted Alexis Morgan is particularly original in numerous ways, where the supernatural aspects are cleverly depicted and the romance is enchantingly believable. IMMORTAL COWBOY has countless fascinating details and an exceedingly strong-willed couple.

Although Rayanne Allen once enjoyed visiting with her uncle and exploring a local ghost town called Blessing, a strange incident stopped her from ever going again. When he passes away, she must follow a few special stipulations to inherit his home and land. Now she will be taking a leave of absence from her teaching job at the university and will live in the remote cabin for the summer. Rayanne is excited because she loves history, yet she is also wary because of how the area changed her life. But there also might be some answers as to what has caused her to repeatedly dream about an old-west gunslinger.

After arriving at the cabin, Rayanne begins fulfilling the wishes of her uncle. All seems to be going as it should until a bizarre event happens, leaving her with even more questions. Wyatt McCain has been confined to the area for many years because a past deed will not let him be eternally content. Being able to truly communicate with the man she once saw may bring Rayanne some much needed answers, but soon just talking with him is not enough.

There are not nearly enough books written about the mysterious appearance of ghosts, and IMMORTAL COWBOY satisfied my craving for this genre. Alexis Morgan has constructed a very sound reason for the hero of the story to not be at rest. Yet not every fact is known about what causes his current circumstances, and I think this confusion adds to the mystic about the manifestation of someone long dead, especially those who are aware of their surroundings. These unknowns left me speculating about what would ultimately happen by the conclusion of the book, and several starling surprises do take place. A ghost town is the perfect setting for all the occurrences to happen, and the history discovered about the locale makes the story even more interesting. The western part of America has a really colorful past, and Ms. Morgan takes some facts of life back then and interweaves them with a paranormal romance to create a noteworthy novel.

The two main characters seem very different from each other, yet an apparent connection was made when their paths crossed on that long ago day. The uncle of Rayanne may have first triggered her love for the American West, but it was her fateful encounter with Wyatt that filled her teenage dreams with realistic scenarios and she has never been able to forget him. Her response to coming in contact with him when she is an adult is totally unlike her previous reaction, as she feels compellingly drawn to the sexy gunslinger. When they realize each has similar feelings for the other, regardless of how they can actually interact, the atmosphere between them is packed with lots of sexual tension. I ached for this couple when all seemed hopeless, and rejoiced over even a small glimmer of optimism. IMMORTAL COWBOY is an imaginative ghost story with endless possibilities.

Gotta love a gunslinger, (even if he is a ghost).

I haven't read a ghost romance in ages. Alexis Morgan has me wondering why not. This story has a ruggedly handsome tortured ghost gunslinger who is forced into stepping out onto the street of Blessing only to get shot to death year after year after year. It's a torture he's come to accept and feels he deserves since he caused the death of someone he held dear.

Many years later, a young girl named Rayanne happens to be visiting her uncle who lives up on the mountain close to Blessing. One day, while exploring Blessing, she witnesses the ghost town come alive and while hiding in the bell tower, also witnesses Wyatt's death. After that day, she doesn't return for years. Her uncle passes away and leaves her his cabin and the mountain along with the ghost town. Rayanne returns to fulfill the stipulations of her uncle's will and she and Wyatt form a connection where he is able to take on a living, breathing form. Even though they both know a relationship between them will never work, they give and take all the pleasure they can before the anniversary of Wyatt's death comes around again. Even though Rayanne knows that breaking the curse that has Wyatt doomed to repeat his death for all time will take him from her, she does everything she can to release this man she's come to love. I really enjoyed this short story. Alexis is such a wonderful writer and, just like with her vampire stories, she has a way of sucking you right in at the very beginning.

Immortal Cowboy is a wonderful paranormal romance which enables subgenre fans to believe in the love between the star-crossed protagonists. Readers will relish this delightful ghost story as Alexis Morgan spins a warm tale in which love breaches seemingly impenetrable barriers between the living and the dead.

About the Author

Curtis Murphy, CCIE #1521, is an engineer in Cisco's Serviceability Design Department in Research Triangle Park, specializing in IOS software products. He has worked in the networking industry since 1989 and at Cisco since 1994. While at Cisco, he has worked both as an IBM protocols specialist in the Technical Assistance Center and as a software engineer in IOS Software Development for mid-range and high-end routers.

Russ White, CCIE #2635, is a member of the IOS Network Protocols Deployment and Scalability Team at Cisco, where he is involved in the design and implementation of routing protocols and scalable network design.

Vijay Bollapragada, CCIE #1606, is currently a manager in the Solution Engineering team at Cisco, where he works on new world network solutions and resolves complex software and hardware problems with Cisco equipment. Vijay also teaches Cisco engineers and customers several courses, including Cisco Router Architecture, IP Multicast, Internet Quality of Service, and Internet Routing Architectures. He is also an adjunct professor in Duke University's electrical engineering department.

Great Book!

Even though this book was written some time ago, it is still very useful in 2013. Why? CEF and Fast-Switching are still in all production networks. Almost all platforms still utilize particle buffers, interface buffers, public buffers, etc. The processes, memory and CPU scheduling has not changed much. If you want to be able to critically analyze your Cisco platforms with a firm understanding of the internal workings within the router, this is a fantastic book. Perhaps the greatest part of the book was the end - it ties everything together with applied QoS. The need for QoS becomes so apparent, since the operation of the router is no longer a mystery.

After readings this book, you will be competent in the understanding of the operation of the Cisco router...what happens when a packet arrives, where does it get stored, how does it get processed and WHY does this matter? (solutions) I am currently studying for the CCIE, and besides this being a fantastic book to add to you arsenal of Cisco tools, it can be a much needed change of reading material from the typical routing or switching protocols you have probably been reading enough about.

I paid $8.00 for this "used". I feel like I robbed Cisco Press and the authors.

Very Good Information - You need this.

I was looking for this information to supplement the information provided in the support exam documentation and the performance field guide from MG Hill, and online docs. This book has great information but does need to have a different name as I thought this would be more geared toward how the IOS was actually programmed and give a better understanding of IOS versions.
If you troubleshoot networks this is part of the magic bullet needed to help in understanding memory and memory pool allocation, IOS Resource Management, processes, CPU, buffers, and cache. The book spends quite a bit of time on large scale routers and needs to give a bit more focus on smaller scale equipement, also the information on Netflow is only 5 pages long

Good book for interfacing RS232 devices

I like this book, but wish the price were a bit lower. There is another very similar book covering lab instead of home automation equipment that actually goes into more depth on the VB6 programming side of things yet is about 1/4 the price. I own both books and refer to them both when needed. This book does a good job of documenting how to communicate over an RS232 connection via the mscomm32.ocx which is included in the VB6 professional and enterprise editions. Having said that, I can also tell you from experience that an internet search will turn up some very good information on this topic, so don't base your buying decision on only that part of the picture. The author's choice of an AB PLC shouldn't present too big a hurdle as each manufacturer employs a different command structure and methodology for communicating with their equipment. It is ultimately up to you to find the command language your equipment uses; if you aren't up to that then perhaps you aren't quite ready to tackle this kind of a project just yet. The point is, once you are comfortable using mscomm32 you should be able to use it with any PLC available as long as the PLC speaks RS232. If you would like a home automation system and the satisfaction that goes along with building your own this book will get you headed in the right direction and is the real reason for buying it. I can promise you that once you get started you will begin to see possibilities you never expected. The system you ultimately build and program will probably be much more complete and fulfilling than the one in the book. If you are in the dot-net world then this book will be of more limited use to you since MS decided to abandon their active-x platform. If you are one of the lucky ones who still owns VB6 then this book is a good addition to your library. Just remember that the big boys at MS are pulling the plug on VB6 support with any version of Windows past Win-7, so your project will run on Win-95 thru Win-7 but on nothing later. Of course there's Mac with Boot Camp and Linux with Wine if you want to run your program on something other than a Windows PC.

Need to repackage

The general intent of the author is interesting but he blows it by writing the book based on the AB PLC which is expensive and not generally popular with Hobbyists and DIY folks.

The book will certainly have a lot more appeal had it been written based on PIC's or Basic stamp microcontrollers. However, I found the chapters on RS232 interfacing very useful and am keeping it for that reason.

Hallfridur J. Ragnheidardottir is a poet and a dreamworker with M.A. in Icelandic literature. In her master's thesis she explored her mythological heritage through the lens of Jungian psychology. From 1970 her life has been divided between New York and Reykjavik, where she and her husband have now settled. Their son, daughter-in-law and two grandsons live in New York, keeping alive the connection between the two cities.

Accounts of more famous serial killers like Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer may have ghoulish entertainment value, but I agree with writer Darcy O'Brien that this meticulously factual study of child sex-murderer Arthur Shawcross "comes closer to capturing the psychology of a serial killer than anything else I've ever read." The strength of this book (semi-finalist for a 1994 Edgar Award) comes first from the quality of the materials--including first-person interviews with the killer's wives, girlfriends, co-workers, police officers, therapists, and even a prostitute who "played dead" for Shawcross--and second, from Olsen's ability to weave the information into a highly readable story that reveals, above all, the ineffectiveness of our system of rehabilitation and parole. Not only should it have been obvious to everyone, long before he killed anyone, that Shawcross was a ticking bomb of sexual sadism, but he should never have been released from prison to kill again.

An experienced and skilled writer, Olsen ( Predator ) proves himself equal to the formidable task of studying serial killer Arthur Shawcross. Born in 1945 in upstate New York, Shawcross was perceived as different even in childhood (his classmates dubbed him "Oddie," and elementary school officials called for mental health evaluations). In the early '70s he murdered two children and was sentenced to up to 25 years in prison; he served less than 15 years before he was paroled in 1987. He was difficult to place--townspeople drove him out as soon as his past became known. After three such episodes, parole officials sent him surreptitiously to Rochester, N.Y., where he killed at least 11 prostitutes. He was arrested in 1990 and eventually sentenced to 250 years in prison. During the trial, he claimed that he had been physically and sexually abused by his mother (untrue, the authorities concluded) and that he had committed horrible atrocities in Vietnam (probably untrue). He did not fit the classic pattern of the sociopath, nor did he seem either schizophrenic or paranoid. It remained for psychiatrist Richard Kraus to hypothesize that physiology was the basis for Shawcross's behavior--he diagnosed Shawcross as suffering from a metabolic ailment known as pyroluria and an abnormal genetic constitution. Told by Olsen with contributions from others affected by Shawcross's crimes, the story is a triumph of true-crime writing. Arthur Shawcross, the "misbegotten son," was convicted in 1990 of the serial murders of nine prostitutes in Rochester, New York. Olsen, author of Predator ( LJ 4/1/91), recounts Shawcross's story through well-organized interviews with his family, his victims' families, and the police. But the book is not solely a true crime account; it is, in addition, a medical mystery. Was there some flaw in Shawcross's makeup that caused him to kill? The unexpected hero is psychiatrist Richard Kraus, who tests and interrogates his client until he comes up with a diagnosis. "Shawcross was misbegotten, doomed to be different from the beginning." He is "a gray little plexus of misery... just sad." Highly recommended for true crime collections.

Story a Five.....Too many errors brings it to a four.

A very good book. Research was thorough and presented in an interesting way. In reading other people's reviews for previous works when they downgrade the rating because of formatting or other errors I always got a little irritated. I guess I had been lucky and never really got a Kindle book that had so many errors that it hurt the quality of the book. This is the first time. So many formatting errors on the Kindle edition. You'd be reading along and in the middle of the page there would be an out of place footnote. Then a few out of place words. Then you wound up back where you should be. Exclamation points, quotation marks, asterix, unneeded spaces between words, space in words.... Very frustrating. The actual story. . . a five....the errors in formatting are just too numerous for it to go without a remark and a downgrade. Should be withdrawn, reformatted, and resubmitted.

Unrelenting Horror

Arthur Shawcross is to be pitied, but you just cannot. From the time he was a child, he knew he was "different," but never knew why, nor did he receive any insights by family or counselors. Shawcross grew up in a tiny village in upstate New York, quit school in the 9th grade after being held back twice, served in the Army and then his life fell apart. He brutally murdered 10-year old Jack Blake, for which he was suspected but never arrested. He subsequently murdered 8-year old Karen Hill and was convicted. After plea-bargaining, he received a 25-year sentence of which he served 14+ years and was released on parole.
Why was he released? Basically because he was cunning and shrewd. He did everything he could to be a model prisoner, and none of the mental health team could diagnose him. Though a few psychologists thought he should never be allowed to live in an open society, there was little they could do to hold him beyond 15 years. Shortly after his release, he began a two-year killing spree, murdering 11 prostitutes before being captured. I had the strong feeling there were many more murders that we will never know about.
Jack Olsen takes us through Arthur's life via an oral history and taped Q and A interview with Shawcross. The book is brilliant. By letting the people closest to Shawcross tell their stories in their own words, interwoven with dispassionate analysis, the author rivets our attention and interest. At the conclusion, a dogged psychiatrist finally uncovers that Arthur has a severe biological impairment, an extra Y chromosome and a little known compound that is a marker for violent behavior. The two together were biological dynamite.
Arthur Shawcross's story is fascinating. It brings to the forefront "nature vs. nurture" arguments. It appears Arthur would have been no different regardless of where and how he had been raised. Mr. Olson brings Arthur, his family and friends, and his victims brilliantly to life.

Disturbing

I found this book very disturbing and I have read many books on serial killers. I thought Arthur Shawcross was one of the most fascinating serial killers until I read this book. It is very well written and unfortunatley you get to know the families / friends of the victims which makes it very difficult to read without becoming emotional, especially concerning his child victims - God rest their souls - I take my hat off to Jack Olsen and the way he wrote a brilliant account, with victims and families in mind, of one very sick individual. Be ready to have your world rocked and faith in humanity almost lost. I will never read anything on Arthur Shawcross again - maybe this is in respect to his victims or just plain disgust with one man who was let loose on society thanks to an overcrowded prison system and parol officers who did not have enough information to make such a decision. You really feel for the victims in this one - very upsetting. A really, really good read.
