A clear window to something truly great

Rubenson's careful presentation of these letters shows us a distinct alternative religious vision. In a period of power struggles in the new imperial church, we see a leader without the slightest ambition for authority over anyone. Amid the clamour of theological debate over Christ's divinity, we see Antony honouring every soul's divinity: "We are all created from one invisible essence, having a beginning but no end, thus, they who know themselves know that the essence of unity is immortal" (Letter VI, 84). Rubenson lets Antony speak for himself, always as one soul to another. Even before God he felt less a subject than a friend, saying with a smile, "I don't fear God. I love him". The book gives very little embellishment in praise of Antony. It just tries to offer a clear window on the man.

She covers leaves, seeds, fruits, flowers, and roots—43, in total—with such information as reaping medicinal and nutritional benefits, growing, harvesting, and preparing the brew. Although the format is somewhat repetitious, and the photographs are not the sharpest, her wisdom is demonstrated on every page. For instance, sidebars called “Teabag Friends” and “Tips” respectively identify complementary tea tastes and alternative uses (as well as occasional caveats, like don’t confuse African violets with violets). CASSIE LIVERSIDGE was born in the UK and studied Fine Art at Plymouth University. She grew up on her parent's plant nursery where her love of gardening began. She lives and works in London with her husband and two sons, but spends two months of the year in New York.

As Refreshing as a Cup of Tea

Being a long-time practicing herbalist, I am not easily impressed by books on herbs. More often than not it seems as though writers rely on what others have written, regurgitating the same information again and again without adding much, if any, new material from their own understanding, practice, and experience.

Not so with Homegrown Tea: An Illustrated Guide to Planting, Harvesting, and Blending Teas and Tisanes. The author, Cassie Liversidge, has provided a book that is as refreshing as hibiscus tea on a hot summer afternoon, combining scientific information, traditional and folklore traditions, and her own experiences with each plant she features.

Liversidge begins with tea, both black and green, and the goes on to explore various alternatives to that most traditional of beverages, such as lemon balm, blueberries, and honeysuckle. Odd as it is, I had never really thought of trying to grow actual tea plants. While I realize it would be impossible for me to grow enough to keep my family in tea for a year, I do think it will be fun to grow at least a couple just to see how they grow and try my hand at harvesting and preparing our own homegrown tea.

The book is beautifully put together and effectively organized. It is divided in to larger sections like leaves, seeds, fruits, flowers and roots. Each section offers several examples and gives information on medicinal benefits, growing and harvesting, blending and making a tea or tisane with that plant or plant part. I especially enjoyed the "Tea Bag Friends" sidebars, in which Liversidge offers ideas and tips for blending other plants with the one that is being featured. Her writing style is interesting and individual, and one gets the clear impression that she has personal experience with each herb, fruit or root she is discussing.

Whether you are a tea enthusiast, herbalist, or gardener, you will find loads of good information and sound advice in this lovely, unique book.

Whether you're just having a drink of tea with friends, making a pot for a few family members, giving a gift of tea to loved ones, or trying to think of a new blend to come up with, you need this book. The amount of information it has on things to use in teas as well as the actual cultivating of the camellia sinensis plant itself is just amazing. About the Author

With well over four decades of experience, Mick Walker’s motorcycling career has been comprehensive to say the least. He has ridden in most forms of motorcycle sport, and has been the British importer for several makes of exotic Italian race-bred machines. Between 1983 and 1987 he was editor of Motorcycle Enthusiast and in 1985 his first book was published. Since then he has published over ninety books covering the history and development of motorcycles from several countries. Mick has also applied his expertise as a tuner, team manager and coach, where his skills have guided many to stardom, including World Superbike Champion, James Toseland.

Complete, great photos, terrific history

I really enjoyed this book. It's an in-depth history of the Norton Manx racing motorcycles from their inception, through their racing successes, famous tuners, and all the way to the current vintage scene.
There is reasonable technical information, but more enjoyable are the narratives of racing successes, the development of the bike, etc. There are lovely period photographs of the bikes in action, the engines as they evolved, period memorabilia, etc.
There are even sections on the use of the Manx engine in car racing, etc.
I truly enjoyed this book. As I am a fan of the Norton Manx bikes, I liked this book more than many of the other Norton books which describe all the single cylinder bikes, or the twins, etc.
Highly recommended.

Excessive focus on personalities and too little technical detail on the tuning and mechanical development of the motor. Little information of such essentials as specfic horsepower/torque figures of engines showing the increases and dates of important engineering milestones from early to late.

Classic of the spiritual life

This book is a great synthesis of the spiritual life and is good for all Christians. P. Marie-Eugene explains all the facets of Carmelite spirituality in a very down-to-earth, practical way. He takes the reader through all of the different stages of the spiritual life (purgative, illuminative, unitive) with the aid of spiritual powerhouses like Sts. Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross. It is also a good primer for those seeking a foundation in spiritual theology; it also serves well as a moral theology text.

I Want to See God

It is a great summary and an easy to grasp digest of Carmelite Spirituality. It is a wonderful read either individually, in a book club format, or with a Spiritual Director.
