Cheri J. Meiners, M.Ed., has her master’s degree in elementary education and gifted education. The author of the award-winning Learning to Get Along social skills series for young children and a former first-grade teacher, she has taught education classes at Utah State University and has supervised student teachers. Cheri enjoys visiting and sharing her books in classrooms, libraries, and bookstores. She and her husband, David, have six children and three grandchildren. She lives in Laurel, Maryland.

A great way to teach children about the importance of forgiving others

Because my son has a hard time with saying sorry and is known to hold a grudge the second I saw this one on *Netgalley I knew I had to request it.

Forgive and Let Go shows situations where children may become angry because of something another person does. It emphasizes that saying your sorry is important learning to forgive people for making mistakes even if they fail to apologize.

I appreciated this book for the message it was teaching. I love that it validated children's feelings when others do things that hurt/bother them. But it also taught that you have to let things go and forgive others. The pictures did a good job representing the different situations that were brought up.

I might have to read this to my son a few more times to help reinforce the message to him but he seemed to understand what the book was trying to say. I think though we will still have a hard time getting him to say he is sorry.

I would say this was a 4 out of 5 stars.

Another Fantastic Book In The Series

This is a great intro book for learning to forgive and let go. I do feel to get the most from the book, utilizing the activity and reinforcement ideas at the back is very important. Forgiving and apologizing can sometimes be hard, the activities should help with the words to use and how to approach. Beautiful illustrations. This is a fantastic series!! Reviewed through Netgalley for Free Spirit Press for an honest review.

We received this book via NetGalley to give an honest review.

I requested this book because when I read the title I thought K might need to read this book or at least have it read to him. He is at the age that he either doesn't like to forget what someone has done to him or he doesn't want to forgive them and he holds a grudge. Which I don't want him to do.
With Forgive and Forget I enjoyed how it showed in the pictures different things that could happen to you but then it described that if this happens YOU can choose to forgive or let things go. One example that happens in our home is my daughter who is 2 tears up her brother's legos which he gets very upset about and wants to retaliate. I have to remind him that he can put them back together it is not a big deal. And in the book we see a picture of a brother knocking down some blocks and instead of getting upset he realizes that there is no need as the problem is not very important. And with that I had to let K know you see there is no need to get upset over something so little.

I thought it was great that there were different situations within the story and what you can do to make them not so big and how to work them out. This is a good book to read to young kids that understand what is going on around them with their feelings and actions towards others. I have noticed a slight change with how K approaches things that happen to him. He isn't quick to lash out with anger, so maybe this book did get through to him.

Bill Dow, PMP, is a published author, PMP Certified Project Management Professional, with more than 18 years in Information Technology, specializing in software development and project management. Bill has a strong passion for project management, project management offices, and software development lifecycle methodologies. Bill has a strong methodology background and has been very successful in every company he has worked for in ensuring the projects methodologies matches the project while still guaranteeing the highest of quality for the customer. Bill has worked all across North America, starting his career in the late 1980s as a computer-programming analyst, worked in the consulting field for many years, led a large project management office at AT&T Wireless/Cingular and is now working in IT at the Microsoft Corporation in Redmond, Washington. Bruce Taylor�is an expert in the field of project management. He regularly provides professional assistance to top management and has accumulated impressive experience in developing project scheduling and cost control systems continuously since the mid 1960s. He has worked worldwide on some of the largest projects, including some huge offshore platforms in the North Sea and the Northwest shelf of Australia. Mr. Taylor is a pioneer in project management software tools. He and a partner founded a small project management consulting and software development company, which quickly grew internationally. Using his experience, the company developed, and marketed an automated project scheduling, and cost control system. Included in this development was the first automated network logic diagram chart using the critical path method of scheduling. He built a client base of over 150 major companies worldwide. Over the past 40+ years, he has conducted many project management classes and seminars throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, South America, and the Near and Far East.

Excellent reference material. Not as good for learning.

The Project Management Communications Bible contains an encyclopedic listing of project management communication tools laid out by the knowledge areas and processes defined by the Project Management Body of Knowledge.

This is an excellent reference guide for any PMP who needs to look up a specific template or who needs to see what communication tools would best fit their needs. Likewise, it would be invaluable for someone setting up a project management office -- giving them a library of document templates that they could customize for their organization.

Be warned though, this document is more an encyclopedia than a textbook. It is useful as a reference, but anyone who intends to read it from beginning to end as a way to learn project management communication skills will find it difficult.

Beware, little if any editing has been done to make viewing this on kindle easy. Also, although the Amazon write-up talks all about the DVD ROM and sample forms, you won't get it, or receive it electronically. Attempts to contact Amazon were ignored. Buy the paperback version.

This is a comprehensive project management book. It follows the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and is an outstanding reference for any one who manages big and small. There are useful methodologies, processes and templates to make planning, managing and communicating during a project much, much easier. Having learned much of this information the hard way, i.e trial and error it is great to have a go-to reference that can provide a quick refresher. I found the examples especially useful as it is not limited to large projects and can be applicable to any size project. I know the success and failure of a project is largely dependent on the project management and the communication process--this book provides a one stop shop to enable anyone to be successful.

Change And The Generation Gap

Adolescence is a time in which the behaviors of childhood are abandoned and the roles of adulthood are taken up. This book describes the different ways in which youths arrive at their adult roles.

In very stable, unchanging cultures youths learn from both their parents and their grandparents how to act as adults. These are postfigurative cultures, thus named because they look back to the past for guidance. Many native cultures were postfigurative before they gained access western culture via radio and TV.

Societies which exist in a state of change are called cofigurative cultures. Many western cultures in the twentieth century are examples of this. In this circumstance both youths and adults learn from their peers. Much of the past must be abandoned as new circumstances arrive demanding new behaviors.

Mead proposes that a third, prefigurative culture may emerge in the future. This type of society is subject to continued, radical change. In it adults learn from their children. Youths have the adaptability to cope with rapid change. They must 'make up' their behavior as they go along. Peers can help but even they remain largely ignorant of 'what is right' as change is so rapid.

This book was written just after the counter-culture of the 1960s. At the time it must have seemed that the world was going to experience an alarming rate of change. As a result of the baby boom youth seemed to be taking over the world. Prefigurative culture never eventuated but of course that is not to say it can never happen.

Grade 4-7-This installment in the woeful tale of the unlucky Baudelaire orphans takes them (via the trunk of Count Olaf's car, unbeknownst to him) to the Caligari Carnival in the middle of the hinterlands. Madame Lulu has used her crystal ball in the past to help him find the children after their narrow escapes, but this time he also wants her to discern the truth about whether or not either of their parents is still alive. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny disguise themselves as freaks so that they can stay at the carnival and hopefully get to the crystal ball before the Count does. They suffer the indignation of performing in their new roles, face off a bloodthirsty mob, and escape from a pit of hungry lions. New and deviously entertaining characters are added to the cast, including Kevin the ambidextrous man, Colette the contortionist, and Hugo the hunchback. The humor is as sharp as ever, the suspense will keep readers at the edge of their seats, and the cliff-hanger ending will make them eagerly await the next episode.

In the ninth volume in the popular Series of Unfortunate Events, the Baudelaire orphans, who have arrived at the Caligari Carnival, disguise themselves in order to investigate a mysterious fortune-teller. Violet and Klaus masquerade as a two-headed carnival freak, and baby Sonny masquerades as Chabo the Wolf Baby, and they share in the humiliation of the other "freaks" (an ambidextrous man, a female contortionist, and a man with a hunchback). When one of the performers is to be thrown to hungry lions, the children find themselves faced with a terrible dilemma. Children faithful to the series won't be surprised when the book does NOT end happily; nor will they find it unusual that Snicket continues to entertain with witty asides and a satirical point of view. The overall story moves along nicely toward the conclusion of the planned 13-volume series; at the same time, the author successfully uses this book as a platform to communicate a good deal about individuals who belittle others and what it feels like to be on the end of the horrible barbs. Slightly dark series but also enjoyable

As with the rest of the series this has some dark aspects. My 8 year old loves the whole series. At the end of the previous book in this series the children stow away in the trunk of Count Olaf's car, which is a pretty bold move considering he is the villain. They end up at the Caligary Carnival, which sounds like another dismal location! They pose as "freaks" with disguises in order to learn more about VFD and the possible whereabouts of their surviving parent. The children continue to find that adults cannot be counted on to rescue them and they use their own resources to solve problems they encounter. In this story we have more of an inside view of Olaf and his henchmen who seem less and less scary and more and more idiotic as the children are able to fool them. The children also consider whether their counter measures are equally evil as Olaf's. The morality of what they do matters to them. Fun story for any age!

I suppose I should mention that I'm an adult in her mid-30's, but I really enjoy these books! They're all very quick reads, but the writing is excellent and the stories are creative and interesting. Dark and gloomy for sure, but still fun to read. This particular story follows the unlucky Beaudelaire children to a carnival where the devious Count Olaf continues to plot against them and schemes to claim their immense fortune. Really fun books! I think I like them so well because I would have absolutely loved them as a kid, but I enjoy this series quite a bit.

Having new characters, who would play an important role in the story, always cherish the story.
This series starts to become a slight dull story because every time the episode starts and ends the same (bad beginning, tense in the middle, and unfortunate ending), but the new characters give Violet, Klaus, and Sunny give a hint regarding the mysteries of the fire and of the secret that Baudelaire parents hid from their children.
Also, the reader would enjoy reading what would happen in the relationship Count Olaf, his girlfriend Esme, and the new character Madame Lulu who calls Olaf dearly.

Essential to understanding Ronald Reagan

Any political junkie or political scientist who wants to understand Ronald Reagan the man and the politician must start with this book. Young Reagan read it when he was 11 years old and promptly decided that he wanted to become an evangelical Christian, informing his Mother that he wanted to be baptized. Reagan obviously identified with the protagonist of this story who like Reagan was the son of an alcoholic father who through the power of faith became a better man and works to change his community through his church. The book concludes with his marching off to Washington to assume a political career. Sound familiar?

Standard HBW Quality

Another salutary story showing how Harold Bell Wright earned the sobriquet of "Storyteller to America." I did not know but am not surprised by the previous reviewer's observation that Ronald Reagan read this work as a boy and was profoundly touched by it. There is something so American about Mr. Wright's works and this upright, exciting tale is no exception. Fleshed out characters populate a fast-paced allegory where true Christianity is venerated while those who are Christian in name only are seen to be lacking.
This release was one of Mr. Wright's first -if not his actual debut novel, and it made a promise that his prolific career kept.

Human nature hasn't changed much since 1902

In reading a biography of Ronald Reagan, I learned that when eleven year old Reagan finished reading this book he went to his mother and said, "I want to be like that man." Intrigued, I wanted to find out what "that man" was like. So, when I read this story I did so with an eye toward understanding Reagan and the development of his character. I was immediately struck by the similarities between Reagan and the book's hero, Dick Falkner. Both were raised in poverty, both had alcoholic fathers, both were straight shooters, and both seem to have had an abiding faith in their fellow man. I found the book's colorful language quite charming, its character development excellent, and the problems and concerns presented very true to life. As I read along I could almost sense young Reagan's character taking form. I was particularly struck by the fact that the problems of 1902 in Boyd City are in large measure today's problems---human nature seems to have changed very little over the years. My only complaint about the book is that the broad sweep evident in the early part of the story seemed to narrow in the latter pages, resulting in a somewhat quick and surprising ending based on several poorly explained coincidences. All in all, I greatly enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone with a love for our 40th President or a desire to better understand him, as well as those who simply like a good story.

When I placed my order for this class, Environmental Policies, I inadvertently ordered the book for my next class, Twentieth-Century Europe, instead and did not realize it until the Thursday before my class started, which started on that Tuesday, I called the customer service line and spoke with a representative and I received my book on that Wednesday, a day after class started. Great book - Part education, part inspiration

Steve is a friend, and I was glad to receive a copy of his book to read and review. I wasn’t sure what to expect as far as the content of this book, but I knew it would be an engaging read as is everything Steve writes. This book is part education and part inspiration - it is an excellent peek inside Steve’s brain… how he thinks and views the world, how he approaches and works with people, and why he does what he does.

As you can guess from the title, the main body of the book is dedicated to a fairly in-depth explanation of the four main personality types (mad, glad, sad, scared) – how these types think and approach life, and how they relate to others. Anyone who reads this book will find themselves identifying with portions of these people type descriptions. The book also covers a brief history of the field of behavioral psychology, an overview of the most common tools profilers use to assess people (DISC, Meyers-Briggs, shapes, animals, etc.), and some common applications of these assessments for the workplace, personal relationships, and even parenting.

Besides the educational content, the main purpose of this book is to help people know themselves so that they may become free to be themselves. This is where Steve’s heart for people shines. There is no judgment here… just revelation and encouragement. We all know how easy it is to get caught up in comparing ourselves to others, and to thinking we need to perform to some standard to be accepted. Steve calls out these destructive, limiting patterns of thinking, and urges us on to freedom. Be free to be yourself. Be real.

MUST READ if you want to Understand PEOPLE!

I've just got to say if you want to understand people and why they do what they do then you have got to read this book! I've actually read steves other books and followed his teaching for a while now. My personal and business relationships ARE AMAZING after having experienced the POWER of Steve Sislers knowledge and wisdom. One relationship specifically is my relationship with my fiance! Like most relationships there were things that each of us did that irritated the other person. But after being equipped with the knowledge that this book provides I now had a MUCH GREATER understanding of how to deal with the situations that were causing us problems. I know why she does what she does and how to deal with it and I know why I do what I do! The other thing that has been huge is my ability to have more patience with people who are different from me. Ever since I became obsessed with learning about myself and my personality my business has exploded because once you understand how you are wired you can do just about anything because you are no longer running into the HUGE amounts of resistance that you were more then likely running into when you don't understand yourself or others. I really believe that everyone should take the time to learn about themselves and others and this book is a PHENOMENAL GUIDE to understanding your own personality and that of others. You will find great stories and great inspiration in this book. Enjoy!
