Good for beginners

If you're looking for a book which focuses on Hitler's private life, forget it, you'll have to look elsewhere. The book is decidedly weak in explaining Hitler as a human being. However, there is strength in the military aspects of the book. Hitler's rational for attacking the Soviet Union and his inexplicable (and stupid! decision to declare on the USA on Dec. 11, 1941, are explored in some detail. Remember, this is a very basic work, intended for beginners or people who have a limited grasp og WWII. If you're a serious scholar of the era, this will not be your cup of tea. But if you're just starting to read about World War II and Hitler, this is not a bad start.

For those of us who have had family members or close friends go through the disabling effects of Alzheimer’s disease, the growing number of people affected by it, and the alarming projections for the future, are profoundly discouraging. The current perspective of Western medicine is that this disease is not preventable, and that for those “unlucky” people who suffer from it, there is no cure. In other words, it is a death sentence.

This is an intelligent, uplifting book which includes breakthrough developments in holistic wellness – a truly contemporary mind/body/spirit perspective for everyone to benefit from today.

Among the points discussed are the body’s intrinsic ability to heal itself, coupled with countless strategies and lifestyle choices that all of us can consider for minimizing the possibility of cognitive degeneration. I just completed a Christian Mens Conference where Robert was the keynote speaker, and he shared his thoughts with us over several sessions. Robert encourages a frank discussion of the sins committed by men, and no topic is off limits.

The Knight's Code format is easy to read and readily thought provoking. Discussion questions are provided after each chapter, and a small study group could easily spend many months covering the material, and when completed be stronger friends and better Christians. The book provides straight forward steps for addressing sins and keeping them addressed.

I highly recommend this book for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of what it means to live their life as a Christian in a world that makes it increasingly difficult to do so.

Not Just Another Men's Book

This book is unlike many Christian men's books in many ways. But the biggest difference in this book from others, is the honest candor Robert uses to impart his wisdom on real-life issues we face every day in today's American culture.

While all four tenets of the code are expertly featured and discussed, the chapters on "Live Pure" seemed to hit home for all the guys in my group that read the book together. I have read several men's books on purity over the years, but few seem to be as honest and open about what men really go thru as the chapters in this book.

I pray you're not dealing with any purity issues in your own life right now. But if you are, this book can help you face them head-on and seek help from other guys. And, if you're not in that battle, this book can be a HUGE tool to help you reach your friend's that are trapped in their own private hell.

I encourage all men (whether a Christian or not) to read this book. They will be challenged to look at their life in a whole different light.

This book is a life changer

I have read dozens of books written for men regarding matters of faith and nothing has hit the mark like The Knights Code. The author, Robert Noland, not only describes each point and principle, but teaches the reader how to apply it...right now. I found myself nodding and agreeing out loud throughout each chapter. If you want to stop messing around with trying to find a magic formula for living a life of faith, buy this book. Robert Noland takes 4 simple tenets and wraps a complete way of life built around them. And if you're not all that amused with books on faith, but want a code that will make you a better man... The Knights Code will take care of the task. But know that when you finish... you'll want to know more about God's plan for your life - you can't help it! This book is simple, powerful, and effective. As proof, we used The Knights Code at our church to start a men's small group... and the guys are showing up and talking about it! Good stuff - and it delivers. You must read this.

Decent start...it was just ok.

The series started out ok and I thought we'd get more insight into the characters, but it just never happened. The choices made both professionally and personally by the characters just didn't make sense and were never really explained. There were unresolved issues and some things that didn't make sense by the end, such as he says that he should have thought about how she'd feel when he sold the home privately...then he asks her to move in there with him because he never sold it. I never felt a connection between or with the characters. It was a very short read. It was steamy when they got around to it, but it didn't flow. I read the title on KU.

Great guide!

I had gotten this book a year ago from a Japanese publisher and am happy to see it translated.

Funny thing is, this book didn't need much translating at all. Besides the introduction and bylines, everything else is visual. And that's the magic of this book. This is the last of the trilogy of LEGO Technic Idea books, so while it brushes on the techniques of the previous two books, it quickly goes into building working machines.

The models shown have been built with colorful parts which show how the assembly is done without instructions, so this is a guidebook and reference for old and new builders to make their models move. The overall design of the magazine is clean, only showing the models. No notes are shown, nor are they needed - there are a set of graphics that are diagrams of the movement of a model, but the photos are clear enough on their own without any further description.

The very raw builds also open up the reader to use and adapt the models inside to their creations - want to make a moving spider? Look it up in the contents, and build and then add your building to it. In that respect, the book lives up to its title as an idea book.

Looking through the book will be instructional to the older builder and inspirational to the newer builders. As a reference, this will be a useful book to people using the LEGO MINDSTORMS systems to develop robots.

I recommend the book to anyone who has a pile of Technic pieces and is wondering: What can I build? With this book, you'll be very surprised.

Unique and invaluable designs

I've been playing, building, and teaching with LEGO (particularly Technic and Mindstorms) for years, and am familiar with most of the books either directly or indirectly related to the Mindstorms range that have been published over that time. I am confident that Isogawa's work is unique. I bought Isogawa's Japanese "orange book" when it was published, and have found it to be an invaluable resource, for both my own designs and in the classroom. This series goes further though, and is in English! (Even though the core of these books require no translation, it helps to have the table to contents in English - and more readily available in the west.) The models are colourful, clear and very easy to follow.

Nobody is going to have all the parts to make each and every model in these books (except, presumably Isogawa!), but that's not the point. The value of these books is in the ideas that the models convey. Whether you're looking for a solution to a specific design challenge (eg. "How could I convert rotational movement to linear movement?"), or just flicking through for ideas of what to create next, these books are a great way of overcoming "designer's block".

All in all, a great series!
