Levinson and presents the method for forming equations of motion by constructing generalized active forces and generalized inertia forces. Important additional topics include approaches for dealing with finite rotation, an updated treatment of constraint forces and constraint torques, an extension of Kane's method to deal with a broader class of nonholonomic constraint equations, and other recent advances.

About the Author
Carlos M. Roithmayr is a senior aerospace engineer in the Systems Analysis and Concepts Directorate at the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. He earned a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering degree at the Georgia Institute of Technology, both an M.S. and a Degree of Engineer in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He began his career with NASA at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. His research interests include dynamics of multibody mechanical systems, spacecraft attitude dynamics and control, and orbital mechanics, and he has contributed to a wide variety of Agency projects and missions. He is author or coauthor of numerous refereed journal papers. Dr Roithmayr is a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Dewey H. Hodges is a professor of aerospace engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University. His research interests include aeroelasticity, structural mechanics, rotorcraft dynamics, finite element analysis, and computational optimal control. He has authored or coauthored five books and more than 200 technical papers in refereed journals. Professor Hodges is a Fellow of the American Helicopter Society, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the American Academy of Mechanics. He serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Fluids and Structures, the Journal of Mechanics of Materials and Structures, and Nonlinear Dynamics.

Cute book

This was a fun book to read it had a good plot which is unusual for books like these. A bit childish but that was the appeal. I do felt the boom seem to have unnecessary parts in it though.

Kind of a creepy love story

I can only give this book 3 stars, because while I couldn't put it down (I just had to know who the serial killer would end up being), I was really creeped out by the love story. Seth was kind of on the abusive side. I don't think there are any parents out there who would want their daughter to date someone who completely flies off the handle anytime another boy so much as looks at her, telling her that he hates all her friends and "kidnapping" her just to prove a point. Fortunately our heroine doesn't just sit by and take it from him, but I still felt like she could have done more to put him in his place...like break up with him.

Other than that I thought the book was really well written. I liked how Ellie and her sister develop a loving relationship, and how Ellie learns a lot about herself over the course of the book. The story felt really intense, and I loved how there was the constant question of "did Seth do it?" I am a fan of this author and would probably read anything else she chose to publish.

This book was terrible. TERRIBLE and preposterous.

MAJOR SPOILERS - READ WITH CAUTION!

This book was terrible. TERRIBLE. I mean, I admit - Kelly Oram is a very skilled writer. I loved "Cinder & Ella" - this book made me cry and it wasn't pretty. But "Serial Hottie". OMG, this book is just preposterous. Let me elaborate.

1. Seth. Seriously? Stalker much? Creepy much? Psycho much? This book would be so much more interesting if he was the killer. But he obviously couldn't have. I don't get this hype for possesive, moody, creepy, stalkerish dudes with obvious anger management issues. I blame Twilight. Girl, if a guy breaks into your room just to leave you a "sweet and romantic" message, spends some amount of time there while you're having dinner with your parents downstairs it is not right. If he punches a wall because he saw you kissing another guy, it's of course better that punching you, but it is still not right. If he wants to kill every male that comes near you, it is not right and he's in serious need of some professional help. If he declares that you're his girlfriend and he's not taking no for an answer and you're thrilled about that, there's something wrong with both you and him. If he tell you things like "oh you're so sweet and innocent" or "I'll teach you more when you're ready" there is something wrong and creepy about that. If he pins you to the floor with your hands behind your back just to prove a point it is NOT right. And last but not least, if a guy picks you up against your will, drags you to his room and keeps you there so he can talk to you, it's definitely not ok!
If Seth wasn't that hot it would be totally a "Criminal Minds" episode.
2. Ellie. Oh Ellie. If you suspect that your love interest is a psycho-killer you dump him and you don't make out with him. Simple as that.
The only thing I liked about her was her relationship with the J's. Besides that she also has serious anger management issues, she acts like she's 12, she let's her loins cloud her judgement, and she's definitely too much thrilled about dating possesive creep just because he looks hot during his shirtless workouts. Girl, you need to sort out your priorities.
3. The Parents. Really? I mean, really? If there's a psycho killer just looking for victims that look exactly like your daughe, you don't leave her alone at the house (just with a sister barely two years older) and go away for two weeks. You just don't. Parenting 101, guys!

The only person that has some common sense is Angela. Ok, she was portrayed like a total airhead at the beginning, but after some time she was the only one who's seen Seth for a creeper he was.
I also liked how the relationship between the sisters evolved.

The Seth/Ellie insta-love bothered me much more than it should. Seth moving into this particular house just because he saw Ellie eating ice-cream and drinking soda? Dude, are you kidding me?

About the Author
Tracy Hogg devoted her twenty-five-year career to helping parents understand and communicate with their babies and young children. A nurse, lactation educator, and newborn consultant, Hogg’s sensible and compassionate philosophy, now translated into more than twenty languages, is known throughout the world.

This book has really helped me, my little one is almost one and I read mostly about sleep training and eating and he's been sleep trained since the beginning, sleeps through the night and I didn't follow it to the dot. I took the parts that made sense to me and once I relaxed and enjoyed my baby I got to know him and his needs and that's all I needed everything else came natural. Keeping them on a routine is a must and not going crazy over it at the same time was what helped. It is kind of hard to read since it keeps referencing you to other pages so that the book is not repeatable but its okay she explains that on the intro.

The Baby Whisperer Made My Kid Awesome

I bought this book back in 2006, after I had my first baby and was struggling to survive! I followed her techniques-not all of them to the letter, but generally-and 2 1/2 years later, I have a great child. By providing Chloe with a consistent routine, she is thriving. She started sleeping through the night at 3 months, has always napped well, and is an extremely well behaved and happy child, even in these "terrible twos".
I think one of the the most important pieces of advice Tracy imparts is "start as you mean to go on", which I took to mean that you can't let things slide-you have to commit to doing something, even if it's not the easy way out, and stick with it. This advice has come in handy SO MANY times, especially now that I have a toddler. Would it be easier to give her pudding for dinner to make her stop yelling at me? Yes. Do I want her thinking she can have pudding for dinner every night? No. Here's your chicken and corn, sweetie. Start as you mean to go on.
The main thing Tracy stresses is the importance of a routine. Some people take issue with having their child in a set routine because it takes commitment to do it and it seems like it would tie you down. What I found is that a routine is extremely liberating, and here's how: every night, Chloe has a bath, we read a story, and then she goes to bed. This is a routine that can go anywhere. Wanna stay in a hotel? Whip out that routine and the kid will go night-night. Wanna leave your child with a friend or relative for the night so you can go away with your hubby? Whip out that routine and the kid will go night-night. See what I mean? By knowing what to expect, your child will be more comfortable and your life will be better as a result. This is the basic advice in Tracy's book. It takes work in the beginning to establish these routines, but the payoff is totally worth it.
I also really liked the book "Wonder Weeks" and wish I had gotten it right when she was born.

Thomas N. Herzog, Ph.D., ASA is the Chief Actuary at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He holds a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Maryland and is also an Associate of the Society of Actuaries. He is the author or co-author of books on Credibility Theory, Monte Carlo Methods, and Models for Quantifying Risk.

Fritz J. Scheuren, Ph.D., is a Vice President for Statistics with the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago. He has a Ph.D. in statistics from the George Washington University. He is much published with over 300 papers and monographs. He is the 100th President of the American Statistical Association and a Fellow of both the American Statistical Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

William E. Winkler, Ph.D., is Principal Researcher at the U.S. Census Bureau. He holds a Ph.D. in probability theory from Ohio State University and is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association. He has more than 130 papers in areas such as automated record linkage and data quality. He is the author or co-author of eight generalized software systems, some of which are used for production in the largest survey and administrative-list situations.

A great introduction to linkage, critical in the data quality and master data management arenas, written by true giants in the field. I recommend this book to our clients who want to understand more about the subtleties and issues around name and address matching.

Just a theoretical book related to Record Linkage Techniques.

Good introductory book about techniques connect to Matching process.
This book should be a mandatory reading to any professional related to projects of Data Quality.
Some topics are covered superficially, for example, algorithms of optimization for match processes or relation bewtween Record Linkage Techniques and commercial products, for example IBM Infosphere Quality Stage or Trillium Software.

Excellent record Linkage Tutorial

My expertise has been mostly in forms processing data capture, but I am learning about record linkage. I found this book to be an excellent review of the field by experienced practitioners of the art...yes, I said art, because although there is a lot of science being developed in this area, a good deal of heuristics and practical background is still needed for a successful result. The book also has lots of references and occasional simple examples designed to help the reader. An excellent book in a rapidly emerging field.

Historical Fantasy

I received a free Beta e-copy of ‘Valhalla Atlantis’ from the author in exchange for an honest review. This is another amazing book by Colin Falconer. This book is a little different from his other works and would probably be classified as historical fantasy. There is a little bit of everything in this story. The characters are fully developed each with their own unique characteristics and personalities. There are Norse men and women, gods, skraelings (? Mayan), and cannibals. The author writes of the supernatural with sorcery, visions, magic, a river of life, shape shifters, seers and a shaman. There is an erupting volcano, blood rituals and ceremonies, and sacrifice. The author skillfully scatters humor, romance, and darkness throughout the story that holds the reader’s attention until the very end in anticipation of what will happen next. The ending left me with many questions. Hopefully the author will continue the saga. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading historical fiction with a peppering of fantasy.

A Tale for Adventurous Souls

I won my copy of “Valhalla Atlantis” in a drawing from Colin Falconer’s website. He’s one of my favorite authors and I rank him quite high among today’s storytellers.

Norsemen grow lost in a storm and happen upon an Atlantis type island controlled by a fierce Mayan-like culture. The Mayans capture peaceful members of another tribe on the island for sacrificial purposes to their fire god, but the arrival of the Norsemen creates a perfect storm of conflict among all. I give no spoilers about the ending because that is a judgment each reader should make on their own. .

Falconer’s writing style puts the reader into the story. You see it about you, smell the jungle, feel the intensity of each character’s emotions, and without realizing when it happened, you are swept up in the tale, turning to the next page out of anxious curiosity. At first I wasn’t a fan of the movie-script manner in which Colin establishes his scenes in this particular book, yet oddly within several pages I was comfortable with it and paid no further attention.

I disagree with some reviewers that this is historical fantasy. It’s historical fiction. It’s a blend of history with a major ‘what if’ Norsemen came upon an island of Mayan culture. To me, fantasy is along the lines of elves and dragons. This novel certainly is far from that…and in time, history may well prove that Norsemen discovered such an island with Mayan-like inhabitants. Enjoy the tale for what it is—true reading entertainment. And if you like “Valhalla Atlantis,” be sure to check out other works by Colin. He’s a great storyteller, and to me, a superb author because he has the ability to write in a variety of genres, not just one as so many authors do.
