You do not get what you pay for

At least not for this text. I've only been using this text for three weeks now, but thus far, I don't hold it in very high regard. For 60 dollars, I would expect much fuller and more thorough content. Neither Aristotle's nor Plato's function argument are included in the readings. Socrates' initial objections to Thrasymachus and Glaucon are completely omitted, in favor of a description of the theory of the forms. The forms are presumably mentioned as they are relevant to the allegory of the cave, but the relationship between the Philosopher Kings and the prisoners in the cave is never made clear. Instead, Socrates' entire argument is contained in his brief discussion of the three bodied monster.
Mill's argument for the greatest happiness principle is omitted. Students are left to wonder what is the relationship between happiness, pleasure, and (most importantly) the good. Mill makes the point clear, but from this reading, we're left wondering.
I suspect that most of these issues could be resolved in a future edition. I think the range of choices available here is commendable, but of course no undergraduate course in ethics could ever complete even a fourth of it. Although it concentrates on ethical theory, a book entitled 'World Ethics' could stand a small section on applied topics as well.
Any instructor who chooses this book will find him/herself making extra copies of a page or two of text for every reading. I would instead suggest Cahn and Sterba's 'Exploring Ethics' or Singer's 'Blackwell Companion to Ethics'. The latter is a better value, even given it's age, and the former is more expensive, but not dramatically so, with much added content.
I like the study questions, and the suggested readings sections. They are very thorough.
